Matt was sick this week but showed up anyway, apologies for the slightly croaky voice! 🤒
This week marks our two-year anniversary of the podcast. 52 episodes. 2 × 26. No one’s birthday, but a milestone worth ranting about.
So naturally, we mark the occasion with… a proper Matt rant.
But beneath the theatrics, there’s a serious thread: this is our take on the maker vs manager schedule conflict, but expanded. We dig into the cost of fractured mornings, the deep work tax of standups and “quick” questions, and the way leadership roles often expect you to be perpetually interruptible.
We talk about:
- The invisible price of a 10:30am standup
- How deep work gets edged out by polite responsiveness
- Why being steadfast in your work rhythm isn’t selfish, it’s necessary
- Whether rant frequency correlates with job frustration
- The (possibly undeserved) legend of the “Matt rant”
There’s no hot take on Unity this time, but there is some mild grumbling about JavaScript. So, balance restored.
